I get it. D-class are expendable. But given that we know how punching a hole through the container stops its effects, won't it make sense to give test subjects equipment that can penetrate the container, say a battery-powered industrial power drill? And there needs to be at least a reference to how remote communication works or does not work, because no one in their right mind would send a test subject in without means of direct communication, if at all possible.

And this:

Subjects were interred within SCP-728 with enough rations to last all three men five years

If the container doesn't have waste disposal, I doubt they'll last a week.

This article is being placed up for review. Please take the time to check it out, it could use more attention.

I like this one, but I think it would definitely be better without the redaction. Perhaps some examples from the journals or summat. It's close to being a really great scp, but ends up being a just okay one.

What he says.

I'd imagine [REDACTED] and [DATA EXPUNGED] would be used as part of high security clearance. I don't think the Foundation runs around handing out these documentations to civs, so a lot of the time it's pointless to redact information on a form that only they have access to.

For pointless, inconsequential redaction. I have a challenge for you, the same as for anyone else. Don't just go [lolhurrdurrredacted] for something you think should be unnerving or scary. Come on, challenge yourself and the reader. See if you can honestly make it creepy without being cheesy. See if you can legitimately make it a little scary to ponder the consequences of. Cuz as it stands, most of the time, it just ends up with, "Huh, well, I guess this could have been more interesting if the author had bothered to actually come up with something here." Think of something terrifying and *write* it. Ask yourself, is there a legitimate reason the number of years would be classified? We know it's less than 10. And why would the description of injuries be so horrible as to "redact" them when you can find much worse things described elsewhere? The people reading the document ostensibly see worse shit than a disembowelment most times, so put a little effort into it and come up with something that makes me either go "wow" or that makes me give a damn.

Actually , there was a (i think) soviet sci-fi story that was "almost" this, but done intentionally - the researchers closed a bunch of scientists in a bunker with plenty supplies etc , and the idea he'll accelerate time and they'll solve some important problems. They got unexpected results and when one of the researchers tested it, they found out the effect was rather more potent (About 100 fold) - he died of old age inside, and the reason for the offspring of the scientists being odd is that they were closed up for about 1000k years.

Well, for starters, the foundation would probably try locking someone in with a supply of food and water- that way, if it skips them a week ahead they'll still be alive to answer questions- also, it would allow you to use the going crazy/isolation thing in the experiment logs.

It could probably also do without being indestructible- just make it a standard shipping container with the weird time effect, maybe highly resilient to corrosion or rust (which would give the foundation something more to study, since 'twould be more of an asset than time room)- or add something else in if that's a bit too plain. I would say voices that tell the person they'll be trapped for eternity, but that may be in violation of a cliche as well.

I'm not sure if you could screw backwards in time, as it would imply the test subject exit the box and reappear at some point elsewhere when he or she was performing a task in the past.

It would seem interesting, however, for high or extremely low pitched knocking to be coming from inside the box.

Aye, the SCP could kick some serious ass without all these other details weighing it down. Compare:

1. An isolation box that screws with time of anyone in it, backwards and forwards.

2. An isolation box that screws with time of anyone in it, backwards and forwards. And we don't know what it is made of. And its indestructible. And it might be a portal to another world. And it's dimensions are impossible. And…

Blegh, downvoted for being really, really, really mediocre. It is well written and the tone is solid, but the idea itself just does nothing for me. It's a box that makes time flow weird….so? This lacks any kind of hook to grab and hold my attention.

Also, I know some people will disagree strongly with me, but I don't think you need to cover your ass from inquiries at every turn. The interior doesn't need to be indestructible; the Foundation probably wouldn't risk destroying the object by damaging the interior unless we have reason to believe there was something genuinely valuable to be gained in doing so. Also, why wouldn't an hourglass work (I mean both in universe and out). It is completely illogical for it to not work since really ANYTHING can be used to track time if you know how. I get that you added it, though, as a way to prevent people reading this from poking holes in it. What I don't get it what good it does the article? So what if we can record exactly what the time dilation effects are? What is the harm in that?

Except it would probably not degrade all that much since it would randomly become newer as well.

I don't see why it should be indestructable, as tuomey said you aren't gonna punch a hole through metal.

The addendum of the doctor's theory doesn't add to what the SCP actually is, it is just a doctor raving. If something interestin actually came out of that, then holy capoly there's a reason the addendum is there. Hell you could have him expriment log that and have him end up being a twitching fetus as a result.

Only the interior is indestructible, the exterior is as vulnerable as any standard shipping container. So if his theory is correct, you could remove the majority of the container and the portal would still work. If he's wrong, and the container is a vital piece of the object, the whole thing could go tits up.

Another reason the interior needs to be indestructible is to resist the progress of time. For all anyone knows, thousands of millennia could have passed inside the room, and any standard material would have degraded in that amount of time. I'm open to alternatives though.

A guy isn't going to be able to punch through metal with his bare hands and the foundation probably doesn't want to just punch holes in things all the time.

(Plus, the doctor mentions not wanting to damage such an interesting object - kind of pointless since you can't if it's impossible to damage it.)

Holding off on voting for now.

I can fix this. I'll strain out all the clichés I can, but a few of them are necessary.

1: The interior has to be indestructible, otherwise someone would punch a hole in it and take a peek outside.
2: If it's indestructible, you can't really test it thoroughly, so it's going to be unknown. What if I added a few more details about the material from non-invasive tests/observations?
3: It also has to be some kind of portal, otherwise you could punch a hole in the exterior and take a peek inside.

The impossible dimensions thing can be taken out, you're right about that.

As for the Experiment log, I did think about having the mummified guy go crazy and write stuff on the walls. The problem is, he's not in there for all eternity, only until he dies of dehydration. A few days isn't enough time to start flinging faeces, if you know what I mean. The last entry was supposed to suggest shenanigans, with the internment of multiple subjects allowing for acts of violence and cannibalism, but I went for the less is more approach. Maybe it's not quite enough. I'll try to add a few more grotesque elements.

Tomorrow, though. It's 1am and time to sleep.

Kind of like this. Reminds me of that story The Jaunt. That said, there is some extraneous stuff. The addendum is unnecessary, and barely contradicts the statement that the SCP is indestructible (which incidentally, it shouldn't be). And the experiment log doesn't add as much as it ought. But still, a decent first effort.

Please tell me this is a list of cliche's and related to Bright's challenge.

If not… Please go read the cliche list.

Also:

constructed from an unknown material

Here we go…

proven to be completely impervious to damage

No thank you.

impossible dimensions

There is already an SCP that does this, and is probably better than this.

the doors of the container act as a portal to the interior

There are already a city full of portal SCP's that do various weird and odd things, they are pretty much better than this

the entire Experimentation Log

Look, this does't make it more interesting nor does it tell us more about it than we already know.

To be frank, the idea of being alone and confused and frightend in a room for all eternity, isolated so that no matter how long a person screams no one can hear him, whatnot, sounds great. However, all the OTHER things tacked on detract from that potential horror, until you just have a mess of 'interesting' details that lose the core of the SCP- a box that messes with time when you shove people in it. It also brings up the question do they just sit there, do they scream or cry or scrape against the walls so hard their nails break? If it were mere after a time i would be writing 'time time time' and various clocks in various positions with my own blood evrywhere because isolation does horrible things to a psyche. If a person became a child would they remember everything that had happened to them prior to their age-change or do their memories revert? If a person stays there long enough, what happens if they need to poop or pee? What if they're hungry or thirsty?

Final Report:

SCP that buries its hook with a buncha unnecessary details. Downvoted.
