The wiki has been up for years. and many people use this daily. I was wondering if it has affected any of you in any shape or form. be it writing skills or making friends!
Aside being a special interest, I do feel that my writing has improved somewhat.
though i haven't published a lot of articles on this site myself, the amount of drafting i've done has significantly improved my writing and is very helpful when writing my own personal stories and writing copy for my school's yearbook production.
i also know a good deal of useless trivia from all the SCPs that are loosely based in real science, that makes me feel smart and sometimes makes me look smart
Despite all my rage… I am still a bacteriophage.
TBH I could probably write a six-page, 12pt font essay on how this site and its community have positively impacted my life the past ~5 years. The no-nonsense feedback you find here was what I needed in terms of writing skill development, and because the community is always active, I feel like my skill can only continue to improve as I remain active here. Beyond that, I found the wiki when I was 16 and I learned more new vocabulary through it in a few weeks than I did in my high school English and science classes that year.
I've met a lot of wonderful people here, some of whom I ended up close with. On a more personal note, the community's social environment gave me a comfortable place to figure out that I'm transgender; it took me a few awkward years, but the influence was important and I sometimes wonder if there would have been an equivalent influence otherwise, given how I was raised. This place means a lot to me.

The staff work I've done has helped me a lot with my current job (transferable skills and all that) and the interviews to get to my current job. I list it as a volunteer position on my resume.
The community is wonderful too—I love just talking with people about random stuff in chat, and co-authoring with different people who have different writing styles and ideas. Makes me feel like I'm making a difference.
Writing-wise… I've developed my own style more, and I'm working on being an efficient reviewer. I used to fall asleep while reading textbooks, but now I think I'm a fairly good skim-reader for forum posts, drafts, etc. when there's a time crunch.
I was a member of a fantasy writing community for about 5 years. During that time I climbed from a nobody really bad writer until, through a mix of self-improvement and attrition, I became to the top of that heap. I was the best they had. I proved it with peer review and conquering every challenge that site could throw at me. But when I got to the top of that heap, I see now how lazy I got. I rested on my laurels and tried to help the others there but then I stopped growing.
Coming here, back to SCP, as an active writer let me see just how far I still could be pushed to improve. It was immediately clear upon setting foot through the door that I was back down there with the rabble and nowhere near the top of the heap. This site is just an order of magnitude above what I was doing before; I need this challenge to continue to improve and grow.
I am thankful I took a chance in coming back. I hope I can grow here like I did at the other place. I no longer believe I am "in a contest" or anything like that, but I have aspirations again. That's invaluable.
My English, especially when I started. It wasn't bad in 2014, but technical words and jargon don't really show up a lot on your average website.
Reviewing regularly helps with analytical skill. You learn to pick up on patterns, basic errors and clinical language (or lack thereof) very quickly.
You also learn that you aren't nearly as good as a writer that you thought you were compared to some of the authors here. Comparing yourself to some of the more prolific writers isn't healthy however. I'd like to keep in mind (and you should too!) that having even one successful SCP or tale or even being a productive member is already an achievement on its own.
ive learned how to be a lot more critical of my own and other's writing, make Funy obscure references, and be as creative and absolutely hog wild as i want in my writing.
