Okay, took a look at this since it fell to page 3 with no replies.
the proper way to insert a picture within the article, and formatting it correctly?
The How to Write an SCP Guide, "formatting" tab has information on how to insert an image.
With regards to the draft… it'll need a lot of work if you want it to stand a chance on the mainsite. Writing-wise, tons of little errors here and there. For example:
- secured in a medium sized foundation locker, secured with a standard lock > why "medium-sized" specifically and standard lock specifically? Why not just a custom-fit case and standard containment locker?
- capitalize "Foundation" when using it as a proper noun
- The only other special accommodations > unnecessary text
- the blade of SCP-XXXX not be touching materials on both sides due to its anomalous effect. > hence, custom-fit case. You can have the handle resting in a fitted older with the cap of the case having space for the blade to rest without touching anything.
- approved or done by at least Level 4 Research Clearance personnel > just "requires Level-4 authorization", though honestly the higher-ups shouldn't be handling any of this stuff themselves.
- with oversight from higher foundation personnel onsite, to avoid abuse. > this is unnecessary. Foundation personnel shouldn't need to be told "someone needs to watch so no one abuses this". Also, the "higher personnel" would have more important things to do.
- approximately 8 inches 7 inches long > strikethrough done incorrectly? Also, the Foundation only uses metric, so cm and not inches, please.
- In-universe, "the SCP" refers to the containment procedures. Use "SCP object" for the actual thing in containment.
- "It's" means "it is" or "it has"
- The handle is fashioned of leather and a black blade > there's a blade in the handle too?
- And on and on.
Conceptually, this is pretty bland. It's just another thing that does a thing with a lot of video game stats information and a drawn-out test log, clearly defined activation and function, with no context or backstory. We see similar generic magic object formula pieces posted and deleted almost every day (and we get a looooooot of knives/swords/guns/etc.).
I recommend getting the base idea polished up in the Ideas and Brainstorming forum before you try fixing the draft. Go to that forum, post a quick summary of the concept you want to write up (don't link the draft unless someone asks), and reviewers there can help you make the idea more interesting and give you some advice on structuring the eventual article for smoothness of reading and narrative.
