Howdy! Long-time reader, first time writer, I'm sure you know the spiel by now. But more to the point, let's talk about a concept I've been nursing for a while now, because that's why we're all here, right?
An anomalous region of completely vacant space that, upon direct visual observation, convinces an onlooker that there is a pinata in said space. The onlooker becomes aggressive towards the imagined pinata after a short period of time (in my current draft, 7 seconds), striking at it in an attempt to obtain whatever they perceive as being inside it - this varies from sweets to more surreal objects, like money, pebbles, or stationery, but is always fundamentally harmless. They also recoil as if they're striking a solid object. Of course, since there's not actually a pinata there, the observers become very rapidly disheartened at their inability to "break" the pinata. The desire to break it lasts until they break line-of-sight with the space.
In regards to my inspiration - it's mostly that pinatas are inherently disappointing. You go to all this effort for pretty much no reward in the end. So, why not further that disappointment by making the pinata not exist in and of itself? I understand it's a bit surreal and relatively light-hearted by comparison to some other SCPs, but I do hope it's an interesting concept, and I'd be delighted to get some feedback on how I can improve on or should progress with the idea.
Thanks for your time!
