It's great to hear that you're interested in writing for the site! If you haven't already, make sure to create a sandbox page for yourself. Any drafts you write up should be placed there and shown to the IRC chat and/or the drafts forums for feedback prior to a mainsite post.
The chat is also a great place to hang out at and meet fellow Foundation personnel. You can get a feel for the real-time critique given there, and also toss around ideas with others. The idle conversation is pretty easy to jump into as well, since we talk anything from Pokemon to sweets to writing strategies to… fish, I think. With your hobby, I'm sure you'll find something in common to talk about. What kind of music do you enjoy?
