SCP Foundation

My SCP idea is a vase that when filled with flowers of the genus Rosa (roses) causes all people within 60m radius to rapidly produce extreme amounts of neuropeptide Y and prevents production of leptin and proopiomelanocortin (AKA it makes you think you're close to starving to death) resulting in the act of compulsive eating of anything edible and often resorting to eating non-edible objects and/or cannibalism from all but those with the strongest discipline in the manner of fasting. When empty for more than an hour the object appears to alter the mental state of all subjects within the aforementioned radius to think it would look better with flowers in it this effect intensifies until after 24 hours the object causes subjects to experience the effects of a LSD trip involving flowers of various kinds. In the event that it is filled with a dead flower the object will cause everyone in the aforementioned area to perceive the flower as smelling "unbearably vile" often resulting in profuse vomiting until removed.

Object would be classified as safe and would be stored in a locked glass case in a Senior Researcher's office. Object should not be broken as the remains object will function as separate vases but will be locked in the state of being empty and the only known way of stopping this is to destroy all of it via complete incineration or possibly by SCP-123 (Would have to go though cross-linking procedure but am not aware of how hard this may be).

I'm not too sure about this.

Keep in mind that as the author, you know the entire story, but the Foundation needs to have discovered what it knows about the SCP through observation and experimentation. How would someone with no prior knowledge whatsoever of the object, using only experimentation and observation, come to all the conclusions you've outlined above?

• 60 meters is pretty far. How would anyone come to the conclusion that putting roses into the vase is the trigger of the effect?
• How does feeling hungry lead to cannibalism? Is that also part of the anomaly? If so, that's kind of laying it on a bit too thick… compulsions are a little cheap, to be honest. "You must do what it makes you do because it makes you" sort of takes away some of the tension; the scariest effects are those that induce actions that can become horrific, but are voluntary, and often logically so.
• The crazy specificity of the object makes me further skeptical. Two neighboring houses can have rooms that are in separate houses, but less than 60 meters apart. What happens if the owner of the vase was in one house, left some flowers in the vase and left on a business trip or vacation, and the flowers died when they were gone? Would the neighbor, who has no knowledge of the vase whatsoever but is still within 60 meters, suddenly start vomiting and worrying about a flower that smells bad even though they have no idea of its existence? How would anyone connect the vomiting to the flowers if they don't know the range? It just seems rather tough to piece together.
• Why would it be kept in a glass case?
• Why would it be kept in the office of a Senior Researcher? If it's got a range, ideally you'd want to keep people out of the range, right?
• How would someone know the effects of the vase being broken if it's not to be broken?
• How would you put flowers in broken pieces of a vase?
• What if fake non-rose flowers were put into it? Would it effectively be just a regular vase?
