Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
Subject is to remain in containment chamber of no less than 6'x6'x6', clamped upright and away from or perpendicular to any flat surfaces. Researchers interacting with subject in its active state must have passed a thorough psychological examination, and must not suffer from insomnia, night terrors, or other sleep disorders. If such disorders are developed during or after study of subject, notify SCP's mental health facility for evaluation.
SCP-XXX appears as a doorframe with door, unattached to any architecture. The door is plain and made of oak, treated with cherry stain. The frame is likewise made of oak, painted white. While subject is inactive it is possible to walk around it, and even open the door and look through, without any unusual results.
When subject is placed against any flat surface of sufficient area to accomodate it and the door then opened, it presents the viewer with an interior area cloaked in heavy darkness, through which nothing of note is visible. This darkness resists even the strongest lights available to this facility, with any and all visible light being swallowed by the darkness within a few inches of the threshold. This darkness has likewise proved opaque to infrared and ultraviolet light, and sonar is muffled.
Additionally, observers have reported an extremely cold wind emanating from the open doorway, causing the air temperature near the subject to drop as much as ten degrees until the door is closed. The temperature of the darkened area beyond the door has been observed to be similar.
While the door is open, various faint sounds can sometimes be heard from the darkness, described by witnesses as screaming, howling, or even sobbing. Upon hearing these sounds, some witnesses report feelings of unease and a strong desire to shut the door. Others have claimed to hear the voices of loved ones or acquaintances among the screams, calling to them by name, and feel an urge to attempt to rescue them from apparently horrible torture. Witnesses hearing loved ones beyond the doorway have subsequently been found to be suffering from sleep disorders (see special containment pprocedures above to prevent further mishaps).
