Item #: SCP-2261
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-2261, it is to be stored in the office of Dr. ████████ in a 1x1x2 meter steel safe (SCP-2261-1) that is to be externally reinforced with 20mm of solid steel to protect it against forced openings and should also be internally lined with appropriate cushioning (Polystyrene packing chips suffices). A lever that pivots on a 70° angle is to be mounted to the door of SCP-2261-1. This lever should be used to lock and unlock SCP-2261-1, while also being used to pull open its door. SCP-2261-1 should be equipped with 3 keycard registering devices that are to be used only after a lock-down authorised by Dr. ████████ or in the case of a full scale containment breach (A 24 hour emergency power supply must be fitted in order for SCP-2261-1 to operate during a power-failure). It should also be fitted with a computer that is capable of:
- Logging names (D-Class personnel should use their foundation assigned names, not their birth names)
- Logging the identification number of all staff who have opened SCP-2261-1 (D-Class should confuse this with their designation)
- Logging the standard GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) upon the safe door opening and closing.
SCP-2261-1 can be left unattended but must remain locked and connected a suitable power supply at all times.
All personnel are permitted D-Class personnel are only permitted to use SCP-2261 under strict authorisation from Dr. ████████. This is to prevent any exploitation of SCP-2261 (see INCIDENT SCP-2261-A). Any other personnel wishing to interact with SCP-2261 are to speak to Dr. ████████ and log their name and identification number into the computer fitted to SCP-2261-1. GMT is logged automatically. All logged information is to be immediately backed up onto a 2 TB hard drive for future use and reference. In the event of a power failure, SCP-2261-1 is to be switched onto its emergency power supply and manually locked via the keycard owned by Dr. ████████. Once locked in this way, it can only be unlocked by 3 different keycards that only Dr. ████████ knows the location of.
Description: SCP-2261 is an acoustic guitar of unknown make and unknown origin. When SCP-2261 is help by a human, it gains the ability to play any song the wielder desires, no matter how complicated. No physical contact to the strings is required to produce sound, as SCP-2261 appears to use a self-produced magnetic field to manipulate and move the strings on SCP-2261 (each string appears to be made of a lightweight metal that is also yet to be identified). How SCP-2261 generates these magnetic fields is unknown.
SCP-2261 was discovered by Agent █████ in the apartment of Jonathan ████ (apartment located in █████████, United Kingdom) when Agent █████ had been visiting him on his allocated time off (according to Agent █████, Jonathan ████ is a former school friend of his). Agent █████ apparently discovered SCP-2261 after he picked it up, mistaking it to be a regular acoustic guitar.
On contact, SCP-2261 began to play itself and Agent █████ called for its immediate containment. Jonathan ████ was administered a class A amnesiac and told that he had never owned a guitar that matched the appearance of SCP-2261. This cover up was carried out under direct orders from Dr. ████████. All electronic devices in the apartment were analysed for any evidence of SCP-2261's existence. All devices contained no evidence of SCP-2261 (Dr. ████████ has hypothesized that Jonathan ████ had obtained SCP-2261 very recently before its containment, as SCP-2261 had not been present on any of the devices, including cameras) and these devices were not confiscated by the SCP Foundation. So far, SCP-2261 has been in containment for █ years.
INCIDENT SCP-2261-A
5:32 PM on ██/01/████: SCP-2261 is reported missing after Dr. ████████ notices that SCP-2261-1 is void of its usual contents, despite the fact he had not authorised anybody to interact with SCP-2261 during a 48 hour time period.
5:40 PM on ██/01/████: SCP-2261 was discovered in the canteen on a table near the southern wall. CCTV footage indicates that a level 2 security guard (Michael ████) had taken SCP-2261 and was seen 'busking'. Several foundation staff are seen to give Michael ████ small quantities of money. Michael ████ was apprehended, given a formal warning and suspended from active duty for 9 days, under the premise of violating foundation security. Dr. ████████ has stated that, "This a very light punishment. We could of just as easily terminated him."
Possible experiments involving SCP-2261:
1. It has been discussed that SCP-2261 might be compatible with SCP-914. Dr. ████████ has showed support for this proposition and has claimed, "Who knows, maybe we'll get a full bloody jazz band if we combine the two." This experiment is due to be carried out when clearance is granted.
