I finally introduced my mother-in-law to the site last night. She's in her late forties, and has worked for the Army and the government for a good chunk of her life, and even held "Secret" level clearance. She knows i write a lot here, and i was finally able to get her to sit down and read some stuff.
One of her very first comments was that the tone of the entries was spot-on. She's had to write documents (somewhat) like this in the past, and says the terse tone, "blackout" blocks, and [DATA EXPUNGED] all make it feel like a honest-to-god official document. She says that, had she stumbled across something like this sitting out back in her Army days, she would have grabbed a superior in a big hurry.
She's mainly read my stuff so far, and has already had a moment where she just turned away from the screen and said "I need to stop reading this", then gone right back to it a few moments later. She says SCP-718 is the creepiest one so far…she has a long way to go.
Anyone else experienced the joy of introducing someone to the site? Any interesting insights or observations by outsiders you'd care to relate?
