Greetings SCP forum users! (What do we call ourselves? Skippers? Collaborators?)
A few months ago, I discovered your site when somebody linked me to SCP-96 "Shy Guy". Since then, I've read probably around 750 mainline articles and a dozen or so other pieces. I wan't in any real hurry to create an account, figuring I still had a lot I could learn about the site by lurking. (Things like lolFoundation articles no longer being in style, the use of SCP-022-J in containment procedures being frowned upon, and that posting to forums in character is a major faux-pas)
I have a bit of experience with writing, most notably with the 24 Hour Shows the theatre club in my college did. For those not familiar with the format: A show (performed as an anthology) has auditions, the writing process, the rehearsal process, and the actual performance, in that order, all in the span of 24 hours. I've participated in 11 such shows, about half of which used a piece that I wrote.
I'm an electrical engineer in Michigan, USA. Most of my work now and in the near future relates to the design of printed circuit boards (PCBs). So, if you need anyone to help you make your electronics-related techno-babble sound more realistic, let me know.
Other areas that I'm likely more knowledgeable than the average person are include PC gaming, your traditional "Boy Scout" skills (I'm an Eagle with three palms), and Christian theology. (Although I do not, at present, plan on writing any religious SCPs. They can be done tactfully, but I doubt that I could pull it off without being offensive)
I've got an idea for my first SCP, but I feel like going into detail on that doesn't belong in an introduction thread. I'll probably try to get a sandbox up at that scpsandbox2 page sometime in the next week.
Also, I'm having some trouble connecting to #Site19. I put in a nickname (da_OTHER, same as my wikidot account), but it just sits there saying "Joining Channel" with three blinking green squares. It's worth noting that I'm not very experienced with IRCs in general.
Looking forward to being a part of the community!
