Occasionally you'll come across a draft on the forums or mainsite that indicates that there's some information that wasn't properly researched beforehand, or perhaps the author doesn't have firsthand experience regarding the info. And so someone with that knowledge steps in to explain.
This thread is intended to serve as a collection of those explanations, to make them readily available in case they may be helpful to authors in the future.
To post in this thread, please include the following:
- The topic of the explanation (e.g., psychological disorders, bearded dragon pet care, eating habits of long-living butterflies, the culture of turnip carving…)
- A short sentence about the misconception you cleared up. No names, no links.
- Your explanation of how to write about the topic. What would you would like to share with other writers approaching material involving the topic?
- Your professional/personal background regarding the topic. (Basically, why should someone listen to what you have to say about this?)
Basic coding here if you want it:
**Topic:** Text here. **Misinformation discussed:** (short sentence please. No names, no links) **Explanation:** Text here. **My background:** Text here.
This is intended to be an "as needed" list that grows as people review drafts and mainsite pages in the forums and chat, so please don't make additions if the misconception hasn't actually occurred in a draft yet!
Also, this is not the place to ask for help about certain topics. Questions about the writing process can be asked in General Advice and/or the IRC chatroom. (That said, discussion about the information is very much welcome! Let us share the knowledge!)
Note: This thread is not for Foundation-verse-specific information (like how many Level-2s it takes to screw in a lightbulb in a Euclid class containment unit), but things that are relevant to IRL scenarios.
