I've got an idea for a diminutive inter-dimensional humanoid whose soul reason for coming to our dimension is to learn about everything here, from the mundane to the fantastic, and for no other reason than to satisfy its own curiosity.

The key with this type of character will be to give its personality more than one dimension. Yes, it is curious, but why? What are its plans, its desires, its needs? How does it relate to humans? How else is it similar to or different from us? These things are best illustrated, rather than spelled out - an interview or detailed description of behaviour is probably your best bet.

The phasing through solid matter should be dropped. It is a transparent writing device to justify giving the entity devices to look at, rather than just leaving it locked in a cell. Wouldn't it be more interesting from a writing perspective to lock it up and see how it reacts to having no stimulus?
