You honestly lost me at the 'will have gone completely insane' part. I find SCP objects that drive people insane for no real reason to be rather tedious, overdone, and are often an excuse for the fact the author couldn't think of any particularly effects and chose a cop-out, much like death/gore for no real reason.

Up until that point, I was unsure about how good an idea it was, simply because it feels like a cliche to me - the artist driven insane by their own work, obsessed with getting it right. It's been done in horror films, it's been done in graphic novels, it's been done in regular stories. Does that mean you can't attempt it? Of course not. But you need to give it an intriguing story line, not simply someone 'going insane'.

The idea in general reminds me of hypergraphia, which is basically the 'intense desire to write'. Obviously, it's not the same as painting, but I'd imagine any obsession with painting would come from a similar area of behaviour. IIRC, Neil Gaiman wrote a short graphic novel chapter about someone with hypergraphia, and I can't really see the difference between this and the idea of paint.
