The phrases "[DATA EXPUNGED]" and "[DATA REDACTED]" are used more or less interchangeably in various SCP articles. I don't think that's quite appropriate. To expunge data is to destroy it, delete it, wipe it out permanently, or seal its record. To redact data might be to destroy it, but it's more likely to mean editing its wording, or even just writing it down.
I propose the following distinction. We'll use "[DATA EXPUNGED]" when (in-universe) removing classified data — stuff that the reader doesn't have clearance to see. "[DATA REDACTED]" will just mean that something has been removed for clarity or appropriateness of expression: I redacted numerous entries in [[[Experiment Log 713]] (so the reader needn't slog through a bunch of uninteresting testing), and "[EXPLETIVE REDACTED]" appears in several entries.
What do you think?
