Hello I have just joined the site and have started the process of writing for an scp. I have a good idea what i’m writing for the most part, but something that has me some what stumped is the containment procedures. So instead of writing something that probably would end up being changed anyway I thought I would ask about it instead. I do have the very basic ideas for containment formed and here they are. The SCP is a non sentient object more specifically a revolver. It must be in its own room, as if more than one person is in the vicinity of it people are going to end up dead. It also ends up drawing people into use (note they must be in the vicinity) so I was assuming that it would be locked in some kind of safe (in case something went wrong and more than two people ended up in there). For this I was wondering if the Foundation uses some kind of standard safe or some other mean of containment in this situation. Help is much appreciated and thank-you in advance.

What is "the vicinity"?
It would probably be kept in a safe of some kind, requiring a high clearance level to access it, although given the effect, it might be best to require that several people simultaneously be present to open the thing so even if one or two people get affected, they'd still need to find someone else (who hopefully is not affected and would realize people are compromised) to open the safe.
That said though, keep in mind that compulsions (e.g., "it forces you to act/think a certain way") tend to be overplayed these days. Take a look at the articles tagged with "compulsion". Furthermore, the SCP's effect forcing someone to do something tends to be a bit of a weaker narrative, since tension tends to be more genuine and interesting if there's a struggle involved, and/or if the people instead do terrible things of their own volition. Consider reading through the further discussion on the narrative issues of compulsion and addiction effects for some additional information on how to successfully write up an item with a compulsion effect.
Thanks for the quick feedback. I'll keep in mind the compulsions, but its clear that you have a different idea of what the story is like (obviously my fault I kept the thread sparse on details because I didn't want this thread to be to long.) But maybe I should in some form show the story. If you don't want to that's fine, I basically just wanted to know if a basically standard safe would be ok to use in this context.

Since you've mentioned that I don't have the same idea of the SCP that you do, please provide more information, since at present I can't really reply with much more than a "I dunno, maybe?" given the limited facts I have.
