Let's suppose that as one gains knowledge of the religion of the Broken God, he starts building a machine. It's part of their theology to do so. Although composed of mundane materials, the construction and effects only make sense to the cult members — to an ordinary person, the machine is a massive pile of mechanical and electronic junk. Let's further suppose that the Foundation has captured one of the CotBG high priests and the machine he has constructed.
Is inexplicable in terms of normal mechanics.
Has 100+ levers, dials, etc.
Produces seemingly random effects when set and run. The effects are not necessarily reproducible.
Can run without power, and occasionally sets itself and does something.
The effects can be useful, highly dangerous, or just plain weird.
It might be interesting to interrogate the priest under truth serum and get some info out of him…
882 might be someone else's version of this, from an earlier, pre-electronic time. The idea that other folks are out there making these things adds urgency for the Foundation to do something about the CotBG.
