First off I hope this is the right area for this thread I apologize if it is not.
A couple of days ago I made my first article on this site and after reading through the first time guide and looking at the forums to get a idea of what other people were doing I saw that many people had posted their ideas to the sandbox for review So I thought so would I.
Now my first mistake was that I didn't type it up in a separate program first and instead tried to type it up in the sandbox realtime.
But apparently I mistook what the sandbox is for I'm used to sites like wikipedia and Tvtropes where the sandbox is where you write and then post your articles however that dosn't seem to be the case on this site.
After a dozen or so edits to my article to be I logged off and the next day came to this site to find I had a email from a admin.
It turns out I seriously fucked something up in my attempt to write a simple article.
I don't know how I did it but judging from this admin's choice of vocabulary I done seriously fucked up.
My proposal is to remove the capability of non-mod/admin users to edit crucial shit like that.
just so another noob dosn't accidentally screw things up
I apologize for the vagueness of what I did I still don't entirely get it myself.
…
Do you, by any chance, read the pages you edit before you edit them?
….
Okay, dear god.
The sandbox is a wiki. You create pages on that wiki. You now own that page. You are instructed to place a link to your page on the sidebar for ease of access in the future. You can now do with that page whatever you want.
Don't worry, the sandbox home page is locked now.
The thing is I don't understand how what I did was any different from what you just described
I went to the sandbox,made my article,placed my link….
I don't know where I went wrong
I was following the directions (at least as I interpreted them) I'm not sure what I did.
But it's good to hear the problem got fixed.
You failed to make a new page. It's that simple.
Admin, SCP Wiki
Your problem was that you edited the *FRONT* *PAGE*. So far, in the sandbox's history, you're only the second person to actually do that. Maybe you should read the directions on the front page instead of beelining for the front page's Edit button. All those people listed in the sidebar didn't have a problem, so maybe you're a statistical outlier.
Also, the sandbox is a separate wiki, and administered properly. Making threads where you tell us “I dun' goofed, it's not my fault it wasn't locked” on this wiki isn't being productive.
Now that you know, we can all forget about this and not create a bigger fuss than it already is. (Good grief)
I told you not to make another thread for this.
Well I had a nice chuckle about it
