Plenty of people are melodramatic, true, but people also react to that by being uncomfortable, and so will the audience. You can embrace that by making the interviewer more uncomfortable, but… Hm. Well, there are multiple ways to go, though most of them are difficult.
The ending is problematic to me. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like it's just a diagnosis, and not a surprising one at that. I imagine clinical depression would be common as hell amongst Foundation researchers. It's not yet all that common in Foundation tales, but that's because externalizing emotions by doing wacky spectacular things is fun to read about and usually easier to write about. But I digress - you need something more in there.
