So, I am relatively finished my second SCP article and should post it in a few days. In the meantime, I would really appreciate any feedback on my other ideas, so that I know what to write next. They are all here: http://sandbox.scp-wiki.net/anqxyr . I showed them in chat before, but some were added and some updated since then, and I also want to compare chat and forum in terms of feedback amount/efficiency. There is a lot of stuff there, but you don't need to read it all if you don't want to. Just pick one and tell me what you think of it.
The Cheese Factory would be a nice little SCP if you wrote it down, relatively harmless but with enough implications to make you think. Question: why MC&D? Why not the Factory? It is a mass-producing, more fundamentally useful little thing than you'd expect from MC&D (their stuff is more luxuries for the rich and famous—I mean, I know there are some pretty rare cheeses MC&D could make with that thing, but…maybe human flesh is required to make some of the finer types of cheese?) Stem Cells…meh. It just doesn't do much for me right now. If you found lots of good pictures for your article, you may be able to ramp up the whole body horror aspect (I see you noted that in your summary), but by itself it's kind of boring. The Anchor could work, I suppose, but I don't really know if you could pull it off. Ritual Stones sound fun, especially if you explore the definitions of "favor" and "punishment." The Shattered Room would work very well if you managed to differentiate it from the other temporal anomalies on the site. The Jar Network gave me the creeps. For the love of God, write that one up. You could really go places with that.
I have no idea how the Thermodynamic Anomaly will do. My base of knowledge does not cover things that cool rapidly for no reason. The Extraterrestrial Ecosystem would work nicely with any one of those hooks—for the "drifting towards highly populated area" one, should some researchers discuss possible countermeasures? Staging a major disaster in the targeted region and evacuating the civilian population, attempting to divert the path of the object, initiating a nuclear device in close proximity to the object…
The Math Disruptor sounds a little like the error locket and/or the missing number. Nevertheless, it seems different enough to give it a fighting chance. I'd like to see how you manage that one. The Fairy Tale barn…let's see how grotesque you can make the inhabitants. What sort of "fairy tales" are to be included in the barn? Stuff that have their origins 500 years ago or more? 100 years? Stuff that the creator grew up with when he was a child? In any case, that one's a pretty solid idea.
The Cheese Factory, Shattered Room, Jar Network, and Fairy Tale barn are (to me) your best ideas. Go ahead and add them to the site when you get them finished.
Thanks for feedback.
Rare cheeses was exactly what I was thinking when I connected MC&D to the Cheese Factory. I was thinking about mentioning high level of human disappearances in nearby areas, investigation of which eventually lead Foundation to the factory, but if just mentioning MC&D makes people imagine that sort of thing, I may just drop it and let everyone scare themselves.
Someone in the chat said about Extraterrestrial Ecosystem that I should drop the hooks, since we already have enough stuff that is inevitable doom for us all sooner or later, and I somewhat agree with this. Even just stationary not-expanding ecosystem would be a good SCP if I manage to do it right. But I am still undecided. Regardless, Ecosystem is probably hardest idea of all those in term of size of article and amount of work it needs, so I will probably do it later than other ideas.
Regarding the barn - it's stuff that creator grew up with. Characters will be grotesque and horrible deconstruction of themselves, but I am really not sure who else to put there. The type I am aiming for is humanoid characters with some quirks, like the way Carlson only eats jam, so then I can then highlight horrible side effects and ramifications of their unnormalities that wasn't included in the tales.
