About a month ago, I suggested creating a general glossary for the site to provide brief definitions of the terms that are currently scatted across half a dozen or so guides. I've been distracted by other writing for awhile, but i've finally gotten around to writing a first draft of what I hope can eventually be posted up on the site as a general guide to terms and SCPs a newbie should know. I'd appreciate if anyone else could read it over, give some feedback, add in any terms i've missed or didn't think of, etc.
Hmm…
I don't like some of your definitions.
For one… "approximately". First of all, this belongs to technical words, if anywhere.Second.. everything is an approximation - what happens is the relative precision, and the nature of task
There are things, like satellite navigation, where 3.14159261 might not be precise enough. There are tasks, eg algorithm complexity analysis, where we don't even care about digits, just an order of magnitude - the exponent of 10.
Second .."author avatar" - it doesn't need to be named after the author - a good example would be Paradox and Dr. Glass.
Third [DATA EXPUNGED] sure doesn't mean the information is irrelevant. It means it was purged from all editions of this documents or something such, often because it's extremely sensitive.
Fourth … I don't think many articles even use [EXPLETIVE DELETED] and it's.. not considered that good practice AFAIK
Fifth - Senior Staff sure doesn't ONLY include mods and admins, unless Scanny has been given a stealth promotion and never told, the bugger.
All in all, I don't like this. It both has definitions which are better written elsewhere, outright wrong things, and trivialities.Seems more like a joke than a serious guide.
Added CUBE and SPHERE since people do use those whenever we get a cube or a sphere.
Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!
With regards to anomalous, and whether or not something requires "scp status," as far as I can tell objects do not have SCP status, they either do or do not require special containment procedures. The object themselves are not formally called SCPs.
Civilian: Any person not employed by the Foundation.
Correction:
Civilian: Any person not employed by the Foundation, or one of the other Groups of Interest. Generally, a person that is ignorant of SCPs and about the way the world works.
