I've been reading this site (in its various incarnations) for several years now, and have been a fairly active commenter and critic. As such, I've found that my standards for "quality" writing have gone up A LOT, both in terms of grammar/tone and in terms of originality.
This had led to some problems when it comes to my reading enjoyment of other work, both amateur and professional (published) pieces, as there's now a little voice in the back of my head going "that doesn't hang together, that's a pretty standard creature/effect, that's damn predictable, can I please get something other than shock/gore horror" etc. It's starting to creep into my appreciation for horror TV and film, too, as most current works tend to be fairly derivative of each other, even when they're done well.
Has this happened to anyone else?
