I like it, it's simple yet interesting (at least I was interested).
SCP-1990 was discovered by Dr.███████, during a routine info sweep of local towns near the foundation.
The Foundation, for what I know, has several locations. I think it would be better to say "… local towns near [Sector X, Area X, Site X, or whatever]" like being more specific.
Newspapers had reported a strange occurrence involving the deaths of two people, claiming that a man and woman had died from suffocation.
I think it would be more clear to say something like
Newspapers had reported a strange incident involving the deaths two people, a man and a woman, who were reported to die of suffocation.
My redaction is not perfect, but the point is that, at least for me, it was a bit difficult to associate the "two people" with "a man and a woman", the connection is not clear.
I don't know if I made my self clear enough, if I didn't, please tell me and I will try to explain it better.
