Well, my first SCP managed to get by with a positive rating, and it was a humanoid too, so I'm just going to ride that wave of confidence and post all my ideas for SCP's right here and see which ones are distinctly terrible. I'll try to split them between "maybe okay" and "probably bad". If any of these are already SCP's and I didn't realize, then you should tell me because I stink.
Maybe Okay:
- A completely memetic animal, that only exists in the affected person's head, which spreads when a person tries to do an impression of the animal's call. From then on, whoever heard the impression will hear it often (in their head, basically), and become more and more paranoid about the animal until they are compelled to try to explain it to someone else, which inevitably leads to them trying to do its call.
- A 3 year old human with completely normal behavior, that all evidence (photographs, video, footprints, etc) will depict as an adult velociraptor. Basically, it is impossible to tell whether it is a human child with the ability to effect its image, or a velociraptor with abnormal behavior that appears to be a human child when looked at.
- A glass prism capable of easily passing through transparent objects, while acting in similar ways to light. For example, if pushed at a clean glass window, it would pass through as easily as if the window was not there. If pushed through stained glass, it would be more difficult to get through, and when it reached the other side, it would have changed to the colour of the glass, and the mass would decrease significantly. I guess after it breaks it goes back to its box, or testing this would be really difficult. There'd probably be a big test-log for this.
- An animated piggy bank that is extremely hostile, except when presented with currency. After an amount of money is put inside of it, it will become inanimate for an amount of time corresponding to the amount. I don't think that this is too close to 173, but maybe it shouldn't be anything like it?
- Gloves that, when worn, will "amplify" gestures, meaning that gestures or hand signal will (memetically?) becomes extremely easy to understand, and the hands the gloves are worn on are enlarged and exaggerated. When a hand or hands is used to try to impersonate something (such as a shadow puppet shape) the hand will take on the appearance of the desired object.
- An unusually made (still appears to have been made in contemporary times) harp that, when played, changes the colours of nearby objects. It is impossible for most people to use it reliably, but a human (the apparent creator) was recovered along with it who is capable of playing it with reasonable skill.
Probably no good
- An object that looks like a block of gold, but when touched by bare human skin, the human will become incapacitated in one of a number of possible ways for a period of 12 hours. These methods of incapacitation could range from hallucinations, to temporarily being frozen solid, to being clinically dead for the the 12 hour period. This might work if I could work it in with the Factory, or Dr. Wondertainment, but otherwise it just seems needlessly goofy. I'm only including it because I remember it from a dream of mine.
- A glass marble that, when completely covered by a human hand, will disappear along with the holder. The holder will be transported to a planet identical to the marble, only scaled up to the size of the moon. After the death of the person, the marble and the body will return to the original position. I don't really know what to do with this or if I should even bother.
- A comatose human body where every cell has become sentient, and the different cells form a hierarchy, with neurons forming the elite, and most muscle cells being the lowest. This wasn't really thought through that much, so I'm not sure how it can work, and it's not like the Foundation has a shortage of sentient stuff that shouldn't be.
- A baseball catcher's mitt that will stop any movement that comes in contact with the inside surface, allowing anything to be "caught". Is this too much like fighting good?
- A cardboard box connected by string to a metal strainer. When the strainer is worn on a person's head, the physics inside the box will reflect the person's knowledge. For example, if the person wouldn't know that it couldn't work, they could make a perpetual motion device with just a few magnets. This is probably overpowered.
- A man who secretes spider silk from sores on his back, and maybe suspends himself from strands of these depending on how weird it goes. This might be my lamest idea here, but maybe not?
Well, anything from the second list is fair game to steal for yourself if you really want, as long as you tell me. I'm more interested in hearing critique/ideas for the first list. Thank you very much!
