Howdy. I'm really pleased to now be a member of this site. I've been browsing the articles for the better part of a year now and have finally made it a priority to join. I suppose I would have done so earlier, but I never really thought that I had anything worthwhile to contribute to the community, and I more or less didn't want to rush into doing anything cringe-worthy (I get enough of that sort of treatment from my cat).
So I decided that when I thought I had a good idea, I'd think about it for a while longer and then decide if I felt it would merit me being a part of the community. I should say that I really don't intend to actually write any articles, at least not for the time being, but I did think of something that I think could enhance the SCP community in the long run.
For the sake of extending my hand to the community, and given the title of this particular forum, I suppose some background information about myself is in order. I am twenty-four years old, an avid reader (one would hope so, considering who I am introducing myself to), and very recently I have found myself in a stage of rapid "growing up". What I mean by that is things that used to interest me and occupy quite a lot of my time no longer do so, and I have sort of been left with a bit of a void in my life that I have had some difficulty filling.
So, a few months ago, as I paced back and forth inside of my lanai in the wee hours of the morning, I sort of had an intervention for myself and decided that I needed something to occupy my time. Something that I could really care about and feel good about doing. Something that may actually bring enjoyment to someone, somewhere. So I decided to purchase a microphone, and revisit one of the most meaningful and fruitful periods in my life, which was the time period in which I was a student of theater.
I really love performance art. And why shouldn't I? I listen to audiobooks on a daily basis, I love music, and the amount of literature I have absorbed through my ears has brought me nothing but joy. Much like the SCP foundation. Granted, I have literally never read anything that has kept me awake at night like the articles on this website do (damn you, Baubles, you still haunt me), but for every missed hour of sleep I have been blessed with two or three or more that have pleased me tremendously.
So that is why I am here. I have decided to fill the void in my life by attempting to bring the joys of reading and listening to others. I wish to create audio transcriptions of various articles on this site, and I really hope that I can both entertain the community, and create an access point for individuals who had previously never heard of us. I do not underestimate the amount of work this will involve, but hey, that's really what I want out of this, a worthwhile use of my free time.
I will, of course, be seeking the permission of the individual authors before I release such recordings to the public. I sincerely hope that I can do justice to the tremendous amount of talent that exists within this community. Thankfully I have confidence. To be honest I was a little flabbergasted by the lack of recordings relating to the SCP Foundation. There are some, but surely I cannot be the only one who wishes there were more.
To paraphrase Stephen King, audio is the perfect fit for horror.
The SCP community has devoted countless hours to entertaining me, and I have a burning desire to give back. I simply hope that I can do so in the right ways.
