By "gentle", of course I mean, "do with me as you will".
This is my first attempt at an SCP. I tried to focus more on tone than anything else, as I am not so good with the scientific thing, and want to get better. Feedback? This is unedited, so that I can do fewer rewrites with more information. So there will be grammatical errors, and I don't yet have number designations or a finished format (bold, italics, ect).
Object Class: Safe (See Note Below)
Special Containment Procedures:
Agents assigned to information gathering in the auto industry are to monitor internal memos, complaints and personal communication between employees at car dealerships and manufacturing plants for mentions of possible instances of SCP-#. Forums, websites, social media sites and chat clients such as IRC servers and instant messengers are subject to alert software when keywords related to SCP-# are triggered.
When an instance of SCP-# is confirmed, it is to be confiscated and brought to the Lot 716 at Sector 14. Personnel are authorized funds to purchase the vehicle from the current owners with written request. For other means of acquiring the automobiles, see Acquisition Protocol 2462-B.
Requests to borrow instances of SCP-#, and use of instances as Foundation transportation, are currently suspended (See Incident SCP-#-A).
SCP-# refers to an anomalous event observed to effect automobiles of various makes and models, manufactured between the years 198* and 20**. At some unknown time during the course of ownership, a small smudge of blue paint (hereby referred to as SCP-#-1) will appear on the car.
The location of SCP-#-1 varies, and it appears to be paint transfer from a collision. There are no other signs of damage, such as dents, and the owners will have no knowledge of when it would have taken place. At this time, no one has witnessed the application of SCP-#-1, nor has it been captured on video or by observers during testing (see Testing Log SCP-#).
Over the course of approximately two weeks, SCP-#-1 will begin to spread. The expansion of the color will be gradual and slow, at first. It will often take some time for the increase in size to be noticed, with a rate of *%.
After this period, the rate of growth will increase significantly, leading to a growth rate of **% of SCP-#-1 over the preceding week. Within a month of initial exposure, the vehicle will have changed color completely to the initial shade of blue.
At this time, other cars that have been parked within the vicinity of SCP-# regularly will show instances of SCP-#-1, beginning the process over again.
The first instance of SCP-# was uncovered in *, North Carolina on (REDACTED). There have been 5,224 (updated 02/07/20**) cases reported within the United States, Canada and Mexico at the time of this report.
Addendum (#)-A Interview:
(Forward: The following is a transcript of the interview with Mr. (REDACTED) Higgins, the original owner of the first reported instance of SCP-#. It was conducted by Dr. Marcel on (REDACTED).)
Dr. Marcel: I am sitting with (REDACTED) Higgins, a resident of (REDACTED), North Carolina. Could you please tell me where you purchased your vehicle, Mr. Higgins?
Higgins: (REDACTED) Car Dealership in (REDACTED), North Carolina. The one on (address removed, searches found no anomalies at dealership). It was a cheap piece of (expletive), but I didn't expect this.
Dr. Marcel: Expect what, Mr Higgins?
Higgins: Well, you know. It's the reason I'm here, isn't it? When I bought it, the thing was red. Then someone banged into me, and all the sudden it started turning blue.
Dr. Marcel: All at once?
Higgins: No, it took some time. At first it was just a little speck of blue on the passenger side door. But after a couple of weeks I could swear it was getting bigger. Thought I was going crazy. Then I went on vacation with my wife and kids, and we took the mini van. When we got back, the car was sitting in the driveway, and the whole (expletive) thing was blue.
Dr. Marcel: How long were you away on your trip?
Higgins: About four days. I'll tell you, I thought the car had been switched out. My wife did, too. But we couldn't figure out why in the hell someone would do that. Who would steal a car and replace it with the same type, only a different color. I thought I was going crazy.
Dr. Marcel: Are you sure it was, in fact, the same vehicle?
Higgins: If it isn't, they went to a lot of trouble to make it seem like it was. The same bumper stickers were in the same place, the same stuff was in the car and trunk, the same amount of gas was in the tank. Hell, even the radio presets were the same.
Dr. Marcel: Thank you, Mr. Higgins.
Higgins: Hey, who do I talk to about getting a refund for the (expletive) thing?
On 04/12/20**, Junior Researcher * appeared after his usual shift hours at the primary medical wing of Site **. His hands had turned blue, as though covered in paint. Preliminary tests and shade comparison seems to indicate that it is an instance of SCP-#.
According to Junior Researcher *, he had been using the same vehicle from Lot 716 for two weeks. He had noticed “a small bit of blue marker or paint” on his right index finger. Over the course of those weeks he noticed it remained and appeared to grow slightly bigger.
After the initial two week exposure period, the expansion of SCP-#-1 increased and consumed his hands entirely within the space of twenty minutes. He described “a slight tingling feeling, like static electricity” during this time.
Within 24 hours, SCP-#-1 had continued to grow. At the time of this report, the entire span of his dermis has been effected. No other anomalous or harmful side effects have been observed.
Following Incident SCP-#-A, I am requesting immediate classification to Euclid. It was one thing when this was contagious to other cars. But now it has mutated into a human virus. This puts a whole new perspective on things. I also believe containment procedures should be updated to treat this as a dangerous contagion. - Dr. Marcel
Are you serious? Euclid class for something that has turned a single Junior Researcher the color of a Smurf? Classification change denied. We have real horrors to battle in the world, Dr. Marcel. Let's not make mountains out of mole hills. - 05-**
