Hello, as you can probably tell from the username I'm Alamac. I've been lurking for about 2 months now and I finally decided to create an account for the main purpose of upvoting articles and, maybe in a few months, starting to work on an SCP. I just have one small question, which is correct a or an SCP?
It is based on the sound you make as you say the term. "A" before consonant sounds, "an" before vowel sounds. "Ess See Pee" begins with a vowel sound, so it would be "an SCP".
Genesplicer's quite right. I would add only that sometimes, in very casual parlance, we pronounce the acronym as a word and say "skip" instead of "ess-see-pee"; by that same rule of initial-vowel versus initial-consonant, it'd be "an ess-see-pee" and "a skip".
