Phenomena, contagious - Class : Euclid - A "disease" which causes mammals which possess incisors to develop rodent-like incisor growth. The affected also experience the uncontrollable urge to gnaw on nearby objects, which wears down their teeth enough to slow the effects of the disease.
Unfortunately for them, the rate of growth increases over time, to the point where the affected need to gnaw constantly. Eventually, no amount of gnawing is able to compensate for the increased rate, and the growth of the incisors becomes uncontrollable, resulting in dislocation of the bottom jaw or death/mutilation from the lower incisors piercing the skull. If the incisors are removed, new ones will emerge and re-start the process from the baseline growth rate, allowing those with capable of having them removed regularly to manage their symptoms.
This disease is transmitted primarily by bites from rodents. Their is currently no way to tell whether an given rodent/population is infected or not, as the exponential rate of increase does not occur. Bites from affected individuals of other species will also result in infection as well, but this isn't as common, as the affected seek out the hardest material they can on which to grind their teeth, only resorting to other animals when there is no other option.
Containment procedures involve the determining the location of affected individuals, and the extermination of rodent populations in the area; if possible, replacing them by releasing members of the same/similar species in the area to minimize disruption of the ecosystem.
I plan to include multiple test logs to supplement this SCP, including attempts to cure the disease, find the upper limits of the growth rate, and observe the effects of the illness on other non human animals.
