Hey everyone, long-time reader and first-time contributor here. I've been reading the site since before Series III was more than a distant pipe dream, and used to bounce around the Containment Breach community back when that was active. Needless to say, I'm a bit of a fan.
As someone whose life has been 99% centered around tabletop gaming this past year, I've seriously considered starting up a game for some friends, utilizing a Foundation setting. With a lot more free time on my hands, I've started to seriously work on it! I've got some friends (most having never heard of the Foundation, or having some brief familiarity with it) interested in a campaign, and the plan is to start playing in May/June.
After looking at several different systems, I've settled on Call of Cthulhu: 7th Edition, since I've both played the system before and know it well, and I think the Sanity/Magic mechanic works pretty well for anomalous objects. Also, a percentile system just feels right for the universe.
I've been (obsessively) reading the Resurrection canon. I'm considering running my game in a similarly styled canon, if not directly in that specific one. The idea of a changing Foundation, embracing different practices and research ethic, sounds like it would be really fun to explore and exist in. So hey, there's that.
None of my players have even put a thought towards characters, and to help them I'm typing up an Introduction Guide that will include general info for the setting, as well as Foundation-specific occupations they can choose from (Field Agent, Research Personnel, D-Class, etc.).
I've also created this character sheet, by editing the pre-existing Delta Green one.
So far, here are my general ideas:
- Torchwood-esque vibe
- Game begins at a Site (undecided), where a Containment Breach happens.
- Set characters up to survive breach, and probably do something cool or smart.
- Higher-ups take notice of their actions, and the characters are re-assigned to another project.
- Project is a group (not MTF) of individuals who assist in lower-threat Foundation issues worldwide, while resources are spread thin.
- Travel the world, see terrifying and amazing things
It's very rough, but I like to shape my plans and stories around the types of characters that my players create. I imagine that if they went through a ton of stuff and became badasses, they might be given their own MTF unit. Who knows!
Since we're a few months out, I'm really here to listen to ideas and bounce some concepts around! I'd love for people to talk about some things they think would be fun to add into this campaign, be they SCPs, NPCs, or GOIs!
Please collapse long posts. ~Zyn
My plan, when the game starts, is to start a thread where I'll post session recaps for everyone to read, and even suggest plot elements. I'm very big on collaborative storytelling.
