When I'm occupied with laboriously sorting medical files at work I'll pop on to read stuff; the "as long as your getting your work done" rule applies pretty liberally. I'm a fulltime grad student, though, so when I'm holed up in the library I'll be on and off the site all day. It's easiest to write critiques at night when my living space has quieted down, but I'm writing bits of potential entries and Tales pretty constantly.
Try to give myself a few internet-free days every week, but other than that… having such a constructive creative outlet has recently been a sanity-saver. When I get sick of my SCP draft, crafting a research proposal suddenly becomes a lot more palatable— and vice versa.
