A few years ago, I was really into cryptozoology. I now realize that a lot of what I read is bullhonkey, but you have to admit, it makes great SCP Fuel. Especially one rather oddly prominent category: living dinosaurs in Africa.
You've probably heard about Mokele-mbembe, a sauropod that lives in the Congo. Kind of like the Loch Ness monster of Africa… but it's not the only one. There's also Mbielu-Mbielu-Mbielu, speculated to be a Kentrosaur; Ngoubou, which is supposed to be a Styracosaurus (never mind that they've only been found in North America); and Emela-ntouka, which is speculated to be some kind of cerotopsian… that gores Elephants. There's a couple of more that I don't want to bother copying the links to.
These are all legends in the Congo Basin. Kind of odd how there's so many mythological creatures resemble dinosaurs in one place. In the boring real world, you could suppose that they found dinosaur bones and worshiped them; but, we're the SCP Foundation, bitch. Every myth is true.
My idea is this: the Congo is being used as a nature preserve by an unknown group or entity that plucks dinosaurs out of the past right as they were about to expire, nurses them back to health, and releases them into the wild here in order to try to re-introduce them to a modern ecosystem. The point would be that this isn't Jurassic Park; the dinosaurs here would act like actual animals, not like they're from a horror film. They'd most likely run from humans instead of try to trample them or eat them, and I would try to describe them as accurately as possible with current known science (I'd have to finally research whether or not sauropods had feathers). Also, since the fossil record is incomplete, I could theoretically make up some species of dinosaurs to inhabit this not-Jurassic Park.
The Foundation would be trying to communicate with the entity who's trying to save the dinosaurs, who, as it turns out, acts like a whiny environmental activist(He does have a point, though; global cooling killed the dinosaurs. So did global warming.). They would also be actively studying the dinosaurs, obviously, and finally, try to find the source of the entity's ability to travel through time.
My main concern is that some people think it may be too much like one of the other SCPs on this site, SCP-561. I dunno, I think I could put a good spin on it; what do you think?
