Hello, i am Red. I am very new to wiki sites and have little idea how to use them or the chat on here. Have been writing for about a decade now and wanting to try my hand at SCP writing. However, the process to post them has me a little confused despite reading every little bit of info i can find (new to wiki stuff). I understand that i must post any ideas in a forum for peer approval first, but what is stopping someone else from just taking your idea and writing the spc before you do?

Well, it'd be pretty darn obvious if someone just happened to take an idea from the forums, especially if the original author noticed and pointed out that the forum post precedes the new work.
Also, no one really does that. If someone is desperate enough to steal ideas on this site, chances are they're not that great at writing SCP articles to begin with. The work would get critiqued for execution failure, and would be summarily deleted if proven to be plagiarism.
Hey Red, welcome to the wiki. :)
If you'd like some guidance on how all this arcane wiki mumbo-jumbo works, feel free to send me a Private Message. If you click on my username, you should get a link enabling you to do so.
Well, you've managed to post a thread without issue, so you know that much. I can try and give a quick rundown on how to operate things:
- Forums:
- Edit your posts if you have new content to add. Click "Options" in the lower right-hand corner of the post, then hit "Edit". Don't double-post.
- To respond to a comment made by one person in particular, make sure you use the Reply function. That's located next to "Options".
- You actually don't have to run ideas and drafts past the forums first, in the same way that you don't have to train for a triathlon.
I'm actually in the process of making an image to explain how to do stuff with a wiki page, so… yeah, that'll happen at some point.
As for chat, you should check out the Chat Guide if you haven't already.

Wow, thanks for the info. I used to a run and build sites on webs and weebly, and currently am an admin for an enjin site, but have never used a wiki site. They seem to be much more complicated… The only thing i would like to know now is how posting a scp works. I read every single guide on this site, but it doesn't really go into enough detail on making a new page for it. I would experiment but since i have no experience with wiki i don't want to risk fucking the site up somehow. Thanks in advance.
That's a bit simpler.
- Copy the text of your SCP.
- Go to the page you want to post your SCP too. For example, if you wanted the slot SCP-2222, you would go to http://scp-wiki.net/scp-2222.
- Make sure you've done all of the things that it says you should do.
- Click where it says "click here to do so".
- Paste your text in.
- Change the page title from "Scp 2222" to "SCP-2222".
- HIT THE PREVIEW BUTTON WITH THE FORCE OF A THOUSAND SUNS and check for spelling, punctuation, grammar, page formatting, and rating module. Fix anything that needs fixing.
- Type in a short description for the edit, such as 'New SCP: The Example'.
- Click "Save".
If you don't have any page images, you're all set. If you do have an image for the page, you'll need to upload it to the page. It won't automatically grab it from the sandbox for you. Make sure the file name matches up with the text you're using in the image block.
