Proposal: Due to the "organic metal" transformation symptomatic of SCP-217, as well as 217's contagious nature, SCP-217 is NOT to be brought in the vicinity of SCP-882.

This one gets so little discussion and so little love, but I feel this is one my favorite if not my absolute favorite article on the wiki.
I WUV YOU 882 <3
I think the reason why discussion is limited on it is that you really can't improve it. It's really one of the best SCPs out there, and creepy as all hell. Especially when it gets people around it chanting "Metal for the Metal God!"
My first and my favorite…I still love this horror the best of all the work I've done here. I think, in a way, it also mirrors my view of The Foundation. Massive, merciless, faceless, turning and working for it's own inscrutable goals, a monolith to mindless action. I think Able and 682 get more of the love due to there more…dynamic nature. The things that make people feel more uncomfortable get less attention because I think some would rather forget them. Quickly.
Just a little comment based on the adbot, it seems to relate a supposedly industrial strength anti-rust solution with this page. Perhaps 882 controls the adbot?
Just a tiny query, why a specified concentration of sea water? Why not a NaCl concentration? Sea water far from uniform after all.
Something about sea water screws it up more then a direct NaCl mixture. Something about seawater rusts it out worse then any other items used on it. Why is unclear, but people aren't really questioning it too much.
Gears, with your permission, I'd like to try to add to this story at some point. It's calling to me almost… anyway, I'm not sure what to add, but I'll run it by you as soon as I figure out whatever it is I need to figure out.
Maybe something should be added about SCP-1030 since it is made at least partially, if not at points entirely, of metal.
SCP-1030 is based on the Hebrew legend of the Golem, not the Broken God. Don't want to cross the mythologies too much.
Yes… but that's not the point. There is no solid proof that SCP-271 or SCP-217 are part of God, but it would still be bad if they came into contact. If 1030 got sucked it, he wouldn't come out. So yeh.
LATER EDIT: Oh, the problem is that we don't want to add every single metallic SCP to the list.
I feel like Gears' name comes directly from this article…
I saw 173 on /x/, ages ago. Read it, opened the picture, CLOSED THE PICTURE, then went and did something else. Quickly.
Image stuck in my head for a while, and eventually, once i saw one or two other items being posted, said "damn it, i think i can do this…"
Ended up posting…11-12 items over a period of about a week. The first was 882. After doing so, I figured I needed some kind of tripcode, just so people knew it was me.
went with "COG".
When we made the migration from board to wiki, i kept the same name for a while, but with everyone taking "docter" this, and "Agent" so and so, i didn't want to be the one going against the grain. I just went for something quick, easy, and somewhat like my old name…
Therefor, Doctor Gears.
Also, i owe the good doctor's emotionlessness to /x/ as well. Posted a "letter" involving Dr. Gears on /x/, long, LONG before "support documents" really existed…and got shot down for sounding too dramatic and such. I figured "Well, i'll put an end to that…", and…well, there you go.
…sorry for the random history lesson…
I agree with Troy, an awesome bit of history! :I
I'm kinda wondering of COG has anything to do with the CotBG that spawned from this article… maybe just a coincidence, but still pretty cool.
There also do seem to be many references to you as "Cog" on the site. Awesome!
