I made this one article that I was really proud of but it didn't do very well, It's my own fault but damn boys.
Can you fellas relate or am I just weak willed?
I have felt like this several times. I've written up several documents for SCP and other GoI and I'm always feeling like I didn't do well.
I get very mopey when this happens and even considered to just leave the site. The thing is I'm stubborn and I won't just leave because of a few bad reviews. I will keep on writing till something good comes out! I also won't give up on an idea unless I lost the core princple of it and I'll just start anew.
I've been discouraged since June at least.
Yeah, that's how I felt when my former 4420 tanked.
I used that feeling of shame and channeled it into fury, mostly.
I've honestly been feeling that way for the better part of a year. I really feel it hurts the quality of the work I do produce, which just makes the feeling last longer too.
people here write stuff??? TIL
Haven't written anything in over a year. Barely read the content here. Wondering why I'm even here, honestly.
Yep. Many times before.
Not lately, because I've realized it's okay to not like what you write. It's okay to write things and look back on it later and think it has flaws, and if you want to correct them, you can. That's one of the things I find handy and inspiring about writing on a digital platform where authors can make edits to their own works any time they feel it's needed.
Not to step on a soapbox, but just remember that you're here to have fun and explore your creative medium of choice. Any upvotes are upvotes you didn't have earlier, and any readers mean awareness of something you created that you didn't have before. It's okay to push yourself to reach higher standards, but try not to let it get you down. You're already doing great.
I'm in one of those lulls as I type this
It's due to many reasons, most out of my control
But of course it also comes from consistent failure. Seeing five articles crash and burn back to back and then being told you don't have the skill is the equivalent to telling a kid that santa is not real after he got beat up at the playground. santa is real btw
Eventually I decided to go on hiatus until my mind is back on the right set of tracks, but even then I've made little edits to my sandboxes in case I get a good idea and don't wanna lose it.
Having an article fail is the worst. Why do you think so many noobs make one bad cold post then vanish?
What I've learned is that you should only write when you're in your best state of mind and work slowly. The longer you work in one session the lower quality a work will be. Of course, this may be just me, someone probably works best at their worst but always try what you can to succeed.
Seeing five articles crash and burn back to back and then being told you don't have the skill is the equivalent to telling a kid that santa is not real after he got beat up at the playground.
Not really. Telling a child that Santa Clause isn't real after he's beaten up is adding unnecessary insult to injury. Telling someone who fails at something repeatedly that they don't currently seem able to succeed at it is stating the obvious in order to help them avoid subsequent failure. A more apt analogy would be "telling a kid that he should work on his conversation skills after he gets repeatedly beaten up by people who thought he was insulting them".
There's no pressure to succeed, but there is pressure to get better if you want to succeed.
I haven't even written anything but I feel discouraged. I don't really have the time management to do anything, and my imagination center is out of fuel.
I'm currently in the middle of a group project (creating a 51 person LARP with pre-written characters), and our word output is insanely high. Handing off my hastily-written pages to be proofread by other team members was nerve wracking until I realized that we're all in the same boat, the S.S. Anxiety, and that has helped me deal with negative feedback in a much healthier way. Basically, if you get used to proofreading other people's stuff, you'll realize that we all miss the mark sometimes and we all nail it at other times. I highly recommend it!
you're not a real writer until writing makes you want to curl into a ball and disappear
