Hmm… I remember discussing an earlier version of this. I will say that the extra-long explanation here is somewhat of a reader deterrent, which probably explains why this thread fell to page 3 with no replies.
I admit that I'm not sure about how you're going to portray some of the more subtle elements of the plotline, especially stuff like:
In an attempt to teach Trevor a lesson about his explosive way of dealing with uncertainty, the anomaly is irreversibly soaked into his skin, making him have to deal with the uncertainty for the rest of his life.
Also, I feel like the plot would be much stronger if the anomaly doesn't just make it impossible for the dude to find things, it makes it impossible to find things without help. Maybe the dude is so hyper-sensitive to feeling inadequate that he refuses to request assistance when looking for things, and gets angry when people try to help. And that's why the wife didn't just leave immediately after giving the cufflinks; she basically gave the dude one last chance to see if he'd try and change for their wedding day. When he continues to be a jerk to everyone when he can't find things, she knows that she can't spend her life with him.
And maybe the tale ends with the dude figuring out a few months (years?) later that he needs to start toning down his aggression. He starts to be able to find things again, with help. The tale ends with him asking the Foundation if they can help him find his wife?
